Some Kind Water is a final offering compiled (mostly) from the grainy and misshapen electric bouzouki recordings I made in Naarm/Melbourne during the second half of 2017, roughly recorded in the kitchen of a dodgy rental property. Fitting somewhere between my two solo discs on Chemical Imbalance, SKW has the wider span of sonic approaches heard on Schmørgåsbaag & Other Furniture (2017) but like 2019's Submergence, has more of a narrative thread running through it; there's some of the latter’s melancholic drift at times too. This one also alternates between more or less straight playing - as close as I get to playing straight rebetiko - and tracks involving some minimal string preparations and/or extended lack-of-technique. Sorry not sorry for stealing that joke again Mr Russell. The exception is not a bouzouki track at all but a short piano piece recorded in nipaluna/Hobart in 2020 that just seemed to work in the context of the other tracks here. Said work on the keys is a kind of broken bebop number that includes sounds of the piano body, the same worse-for-wear and out-of-tune upright as heard on Something In The Way (Frustration Jazz, 2021). There's actually a bunch more of those piano recordings I want to release so this album probably contains the last bouzouki recordings I'll let loose for a little while at least, I'm also not sure where to next in regards to the strings. I could always make a liar of myself though. Time to move on but hope this finds a few interested ears along the way.

The first part of track 6 previously appeared on Schmørgåsbaag & Other Furniture (Chemical Imbalance, 2017). The version that appears on Some Kind Water is the complete recording.

Recorded on Wurundjeri country in Naarm/Melbourne, and in lutruwita/Tasmania on the lands of the Muwinina people in nipaluna/Hobart. Compiled, printed and hand-assembled on Leenow-wenne country, lutruwita/Tasmania 2023. The Tasmanian Aboriginal cummunity are the ongoing custodians of lutruwita/Tasmania. These places were all brutally stolen, sovereignty was never ceded.
